Sewing isn't just a craft. It is therapy.....

Every one is busy being busy these days.

If it's not the pressure of the workplace, it's sorting family and home life.

We all want to find that one activity to break up the stress and and give you a sense of well being and relaxation.

For many it is a quick run, a trip to the gym, a yoga class or a swim.

For many it is socialising with friends, meeting for a drink or meal, a dance night date or a movie night.

For many being so physical or social isn't what brings peace.

A busy day full of customers warrants a place of quiet.

A busy day on your feet running around asks for something more sedate.

A busy day entertaining would be better remedied with an activity you can enjoy on your own without the need to chit chat.

A busy day working from home alone would be good followed by a class or workshop with other like minded people.

Sewing can be the go to for many people.

Enjoy at home in peace and quiet with just music or a podcast to accompany you.

Or you can join a group for an added bit of motivation and social interaction.

Sewing is a magical hobby with many subcategories.

Dressmaking, craft projects, quilting, bag making, up-cycling, alterations, and so much more.

Being creative is a wonderful way to relax. You can envelope yourself in the comfort of being surrounded with the feel and texture of the fabrics.

The sounds of the scissors cutting through the cloth.

Even the smells from the material can offer a comforting place to be.

As a child I would often be found hidden under a clothes rail in a shop touching the soft garments or with my Mum whilst she ironed and take in the warm fragrance of the fresh laundry.

I always wanted to be a designer and to be able to take virgin fabric and turn it into unique clothing or upgrade a current garment into something new.

I have spent my life gaining experience in all aspects of dressmaking and still get a real thrill when an item is complete.

I may get frustrated sometimes, but a walk and a cuppa normally brings me back to finish the project satisfactorily.

It is amazing how time stands still. You forget the outside world for a while and just immerse yourself in the creative process.

The sense of achievement gives a boost to self esteem. The pride of showing your creation to others and their appreciation in return is such a great feeling.

Sadly the busyness of life does prevent too many of us having the time and space to practice their art.

Many do not have the space to set up or store the many bits and pieces you end up stashing.

The dining table needs to be cleared to set up then cleared again to prepare for dinner. Not the ideal situation for mindful practice.

I do offer classes and workshops to try and give 3 hours or more each week at my studio for my students to put aside and devote valuable time to their craft but sadly I can only accommodate so many on a regular basis.

I am now offering a 3 night break to those who would like to enjoy more time to themselves.

For an opportunity to add a big bit of total pampering, you can join me at the gorgeous Champneys, Forest Mere in Hampshire in October.

23rd to 25th October with prices from £554 (based on a shared room without treatments)

There are options to stay in a luxury single or shared room with or without treatments.

A large room with lakeside views will be the sewing room for the duration of your stay with as much or as little sewing you wish to do.

I will be there from 10am to 3pm to guide and help should you require it.

I will also be doing demonstrations of techniques throughout the break if you want to learn something new.

The countryside location offers walks, inside and outside pools, gym, chill out places for a quiet read, fitness and relaxation classes and a wide range of beauty and holistic treatments.

The break is fully catered for with buffet breakfast, 3 course lunch, 3 course dinner plus refreshments during the day..........all healthy options but not rabbit food.

For a luxury stay with uninterrupted sewing and a huge amount of pampering, please consider this unique luxury mini holiday.

sewing isn't just a craft it is therapy
